1. What age do you accept children?
Children can join Summit from the age of 8.
2. Do you teach the National Curriculum?
All lessons are based on the National Curriculum for the particular year/ level. Teachers must have knowledge of the various specifications, assessment, and targets.
3. Do students receive homework?
Yes, students receive homework every Saturday which must be returned the following Saturday. This homework is marked in class.
4. Are your teachers qualified?
Teachers must have a degree, PGCE or QTS and at least 3 years teaching experience in their specialist subject.
5. Are classes held in a hall?
Classes are held in individual classrooms.
6. What is the best time of year to enrol?
The beginning of the academic year or September, is the best time to start a course.
7. What is the dress code?
For students and teachers the dress code is smart casual. Shorts, jeans and trainers are not encouraged.
8. What time do lessons start for primary age children?
Most classes for primary pupils start at 9am. Otherwise it
depends on the age and the number of subjects enrolled for.
9. Are there lessons in the afternoon?
Our hours are 9am – 1pm on Saturdays at The London School of Economics.
10. What is the minimum length of time a child can be enroll for?
Children can be enrolled for a minimum one term.
11. How many pupils do you have in a class?
The maximum class size is 10.
12. How long are the lessons?
Every lesson is 1 hour. Punctuality is very important if pupils are to derive maximum benefit.
13. Where are you located?
Classes are held at The London School of Economics, Houghton Street, The Old Building. The campus has recently been extensively refurbished.
14. Do you have classes for GCSE?
Yes, we provide lessons for primary and secondary pupils. This includes SATs, 13 Plus, 11 Plus, GCSE and A Level.
15. What GCSE subjects do you teach?
Students can study GCSE English, Mathematics and Science.
16. Do you offer A Level Sciences?
Yes, mainly Pearson Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
17. Are you open during holidays.
We are usually closed during the holidays at Half term, Easter and Christmas.
18. Do you provide home tuition?
At the present time, we do not offer home tuition.
19. Why do you give assessments?
It allows teachers to group children according to their ability.
20. How will I know if my child is making progress at Summit?
It is your child’s school that notices the improvement first. They will undoubtedly mention it to you. Furthermore, at the end of term, parents receive a written report from our teachers.
21. Do you accept Tax Credits?
Summit does not accept tax credits. Fees are competitive compared to private tutors.
22. What qualifications do your teachers have?
We hire teachers who are specialists in Mathematics, English or Science. Each teacher must have a degree and/or have completed a teacher training course preferably in the UK.
23. Can fees be paid in instalments?
Yes, monthly payment plans are available for those who request it.
24. Is there discount for siblings?
If siblings are enrolled together for the whole academic year, a discount is given to the second child.
25. Do you offer a Summer School?
Summit is closed during the summer holidays. Occasionally, parents may request classes during a holiday period, these may be offered depending on the number of students wanting to attend.
26. Do you provide Easter Revision?
Yes, depending on demand.
27. Is one–to–one tuition available?
Under certain circumstances, it is possible for a student to have a booster one to one with a specialist teacher.
28. Do you have branches in other areas of London?
Our only branch in London is at the London School of Economics in Central London, close to the Law Courts, Aldwych, Temple and Holborn tube stations.
29. My child has been bullied at school. Could that happen at Summit?
Bullying is not tolerated at Summit. At the initial interview students are told that unkindness or bullying will result in dismissal. Discipline is very strict.
30. Do you provide private tutors?
Occasionally, if teachers are available to give extra tuition, arrangements are made via the Principal.
31. Can home schooled children join Summit?
Yes, Summit is open to help all children who require academic support.
32. Where are you located?
Summit Saturday School is located in London. All lessons are at The London School of Economics, WC2. We are only at this location on Saturdays. The office is in Battersea, SW11 Monday to Friday and available to deal with enquiries.
33. Is there a fee for assessments?
There is a charge of £40.00 for each assessment. This fee is refunded when you join Summit.
34. Do you offer Trial Days?
It is possible to book a trial morning for any of the subjects taught at Summit.
35. Do you offer classes for adults?
We do not have an age restriction. Adults can apply for one-to-one lessons, or if they wish to work with teenagers that is acceptable too.
36. Is Summit open on Sundays?
No we are only open on Saturday mornings.
